California Department of Education: Social Emotional Learning Resource Guide [downloadable]

CDE social emotional346There is a growing body of research proving that social and emotional learning (SEL) is fundamental to academic success, and must be woven into the work of every teacher in every classroom and every after school and summer enrichment program, if we truly want to prepare all our students for college and careers.

Social Emotional Learning in California: A Guide to Resources is designed to assist California educators serve the social and emotional needs of children and to help students develop the skills they need to function well in the classroom, the community, in college and their careers.

The Guide is primarily intended for an audience of practitioners: Pre-K–12 educators,
administrators, district staff, and expanded learning staff. The resources are often relevant
to other student support staff, such as counselors. A small number of resources included
are directly relevant to other stakeholders such as families, high school students, higher
education professionals, and teacher educators.

The guide highlights toolkits and online resource centers rather than stand-alone tools.
Multiple resources offer guidance on a systemic approach to SEL implementation and
continuous improvement processes in a variety of educational settings.

The Guide is available in two formats:

  • PDF document with links to resources
  • Searchable entries on Collaboration in Common, a free online professional learning community and resource exchange platform available to all California educators
