DBT: One Parent’s Journey
Currently, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the only well-established, evidence-based treatment for self-harming adolescents at high risk for suicide. In this podcast episode, hear one mom’s brave story of helping her teenage daughter through panic attacks, PTSD and self-harming behaviors using DBT skills like mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness and communication, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. We are so grateful that she is willing to share her life-changing journey with us.
From following your instincts and asking for help to taking your family’s temperature and practicing “Wise Mind,” today’s podcast episode offers a heartfelt and authentic glimpse into one family’s journey with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is an intensive therapeutic approach teaching social emotional and resilience skills that can help adolescents struggling with emotion regulation, excessive worrying, withdrawing from friends, self-harm and/or suicidality. Kimm Angel, a Marketing Associate at CHC and mom of two daughters, encourages listeners first and foremost to listen to their gut: “No one knows your child better than you do. You’re not overreacting and you are a good parent.” Tune in today to learn more about how DBT can help your family heal.
